North & West Vancouver

Pickleball is easy to learn but hard to master. However due to the nature of the sport, truly everyone can improve and work on skills at any age. Learning the lingo is step 1 (dinks, the kitchen, bangers, ATP’s, Ernie’s, nasty Nelsons etc!) and then how to keep score! After that, playing games and enjoying the sport is easy!

Learn to Play Pickleball

I love to coach and introduce pickleball to new people. I am very happy to adapt my coaching to whatever objectives and skill set you (and your group) have. I have a lot of resources to help you get up and running from choosing a paddle, to where and how to play!

Most districts and cities now have pickleball clubs and that is also a great place to start your pickleball journey. Take a look at the North Shore Pickleball Club which is an amazing club and resource for new players.

If playing in tournaments is what you are interested in, you could play in one almost every weekend in BC during the warmer months! Tournaments are listed on the Pickleball BC website.

About Me

Sports have always been my passion and I have been a coach in various capacities my whole life. I was a camp counsellor at Olympia Sports Camp, a player coach for UWO’s varsity badminton team, and coached various youth basketball and ultimate teams in North Vancouver, Cleveland Elementary and Handsworth Secondary.

I volunteer as the Youth Development Coordinator for the North Shore Pickleball Club and over the last 3 years have introduced over 2350 students and teachers to the sport. It is exciting to see how the popularity of Pickleball has grown in such a short time and the enthusiasm to welcome me and our amazing pickleball volunteers into schools has more than doubled every year we have offered it.

Why Pickleball?

I saw pickleball being played at a community center late in 2019 and was drawn in! I played varsity badminton at Western University but haven’t played since due to a recurring low back issue. As I signed up for my first pickleball drop in, I was hopeful that it wouldn’t create the same stress on my back as badminton and lucky for me, it didn’t. And it’s been pickleball, pickleball, pickleball ever since! As a lifelong sports participant and administrator, I can truly say I’ve never seen anything like pickleball. The community and the sheer joy of “play” that this sport has brought back into my and so many people’s lives is really what makes the sport so fun and addictive. I have made more friends over the last 3 years (during Covid!) than I have in my 20 years in Vancouver. There is a sense of youth about this sport as once you find your community of players, you will have the feeling of when you were 10 and your neighbourhood kids would knock on your door and ask if you wanted to come out and play!

Coaching Areas of Focus

I specialize in private lessons for intermediate players who are wanting to improve their skills for tournament and rec play. I love breaking down skills and working with players to improve fundamentals and footwork.

I also love coaching small group lessons and have build several programs (3, 5 or 7 classes) to help people learn and progress through customized set of skills based on their level of play and areas of interest.

Team building events are also a lot of fun and have organized many of these events with a focus on introducing the sport, learning some skills, how to play a game and then a fun scramble tournament.

Coaching Certification

I continually like to grow and learn to progress my own game but also to enhance my coaching skills. I still take lessons occasionally myself and have attended the Tyson McGuffin camp at Tres Palapas pickleball club in Mexico in 2023 and 2024.

I am a big believer in the National Coaching Certification Programs and have obtained the following certifications:

  • NCCP Level 2 - February 2023

  • NCCP Level 1 - December 2021
